Well, it’s that time again, Back To School. I remember those times very well. It was always an exciting time for me growing up. As much as I always enjoyed our summer vacations, I always looked forward to going back to school. I loved shopping for new clothes, even though I got a lot of hand me downs from my brother, Frank. Good thing he was a little on the rough and active side, because not all his clothes were suitable to be hand me downs.
That was a good thing, because then i would get to shop for a few new things. I loved shopping for new shoes and back to school supplies. Back then, the schools supplied everything, so we didn’t have to purchase a whole lot of supplies. These days, you have to purchase just about everything.
The first day of school was the most memorable day for me. I will never forget the love my mother showed us in getting us ready for the first day of school. New clothes, new shoes, and our hair always perfectly groomed. My mother perfectly combed my hair every day for a very long time throughout my younger years.

After we got all dressed and were perfectly groomed, it was picture time. Yes, I have pictures of my first day of school all the way up to 12th grade. In fact, all of my siblings do. After the picture was taken, it was time to catch the bus. Sometimes, I just didn’t want to go. I would look back and see my mother standing there as we were waving to each other. One hand waving and the other hand holding my lunch pail filled with lots of goodies my mother had prepared for me. I just didn’t want to leave her alone. I guess you might call me a momma’s boy. 🙂

This is the perfect time to thank you mom for the wonderful Back to School memories you gave to all of us kids. Dad, Thank you for always working so hard so that we were able to have those special new clothes and supplies each and every year. Love you both!
When school started, the most fun and creative time for me was when I had the chance to cover my own school books. I used to take old newspaper and my mother’s freezer paper and cover my books. In those days we didn’t have fun foam and crafty supplies available to decorate our book cover with. Instead, I got very creative with those beautiful colorful crayons. Now there is so much out there to decorate with.
I’m very excited to share with you a book cover design project for all those little ones who love dinosaurs. Don’t forget the book marker to go along with your newly designed book cover.
